Burnout in wedding planning

Wedding Planning

Your wedding day is one of the most special days of your life, but let’s be honest, it can also be one of the most stressful! With so many details to manage and complex emotions running close to the surface, it's easy to get overwhelmed and lose your sense of calm (word of advice-stay away from the mimosa’s before you walk down the aisle).

Avoiding Burnout before your Wedding

How to:

With a little bit of planning and preparation, it is possible you can stay calm and relaxed on your wedding day. By lowering expectation and spreading the wedding load, you can ease the pressure on yourself. Staying present and mindful of what your wedding is actually all about will help stop your mind from catastrophising about the ‘what ifs.’

7 Helpful tips:

  1. Plan, plan and plan some more: Make a list of everything you need to do and when you need to do it. This will help you stay organised and avoid last-minute stress. Don’t be afraid to share your plans with your nearest and dearest so they know what support you need and when.

  2. Get enough sleep: Ok, so maybe 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep the night before might be asking a but much but it's important to at least try and get a night's sleep before your wedding day. Failing this, try not to run yourself down to breaking point in the run up to the big day. You definitely need to prioritise some rest (a nice excuse for a pre-wedding spa trip!), you’ll make more rational choices in the planning stages and your future self will thank you.

  3. Practice relaxation techniques: Whether it's yoga, meditation, or deep breathing, find a relaxation technique that works for you and practice it regularly. These are relaxation tactics I try to incorporate into a daily basis and always before I am due to officiate a ceremony. They do work and will help you stay calm and cantered on your big day.

  4. Surround yourself with positivity: Choose people who make you feel good and avoid anyone who is negative or stressful. It’s ok to ignore the calls of the ‘well-meaning’ relative!

  5. Delegate tasks: Don't be afraid to delegate tasks to trusted friends and family members. This will take some of the pressure off you and allow you to focus on enjoying your day.

  6. Take breaks: It's important to take breaks throughout the wedding day to rest and recharge. Whether it's a quiet moment alone or a quick walk outside, taking breaks will help you stay calm and refreshed. You’ll maintain your energy levels easier and ensure that you and your partner have some moments alone, on the day itself.

  7. Remember what's important: At the end of the day, what's most important is that you're getting married to the person you love. Keep this in mind and let go of any small details that don't go exactly as planned.

Remember, this is a day to celebrate your love and commitment to each other, so take the time to enjoy every moment!
