Making Space for Everyone: Curating Ceremonies Where Everyone Belongs

Celebrant weddings are unique in the way they truly captivate the hearts and minds of you and your loved ones. Through carefully chosen rituals and beautiful symbolism or words that feel emotional and heartfelt, a celebrant wedding takes your guests on a magical journey.

Curating a wedding ceremony which connects deeply with you and your loved ones but is also completely inclusive, is one of the most important things to me. As your wedding celebrant, I will go above and beyond. By prioritising not only your vision for your big day but, also, your background and your values, I can ensure it feels deeply personal and authentic. Your day really does matter to me.

Next year, I’ll be entering into my fifth year as a celebrant, celebrating love stories across Yorkshire and beyond. I’ve delivered beautiful, heartfelt ceremonies for a diverse range of couples all with varying budgets, styles and Pinterest boards! Over this time, I’ve learned that being inclusive really  means paying attention; taking extra time to really understand what matters to you whilst crafting a space that feels safe, welcoming and comfortable for your loved ones.

“Where do I even start with Michelle? The way she approaches weddings is pure magic.
The whole process felt so special from start to finish. Michelle has the most beautiful personality and took the time to really get to know us and our story. The ceremony she created was completely us– full of heart, personality, fun and laughter.
There wasn’t a dry eye in the room, and it was truly unforgettable.
So many of our family and friends commented on how personal, meaningful and beautiful the ceremony was.
Michelle has a gift for creating something incredibly special, and we feel so lucky she was part of our day. She is pure magic! ”

Making Space for Disabilities and Vulnerabilities

One of the first questions I ask my couples in their ‘pre-ceremony checklist’ is if there are any additional needs within the wedding party or amongst your guests. I might need to bring my own speaker system for guests who may be hard of hearing or consider seating arrangements, making space for wheelchairs etc.

But what about the internal struggles or fears or sensitivities, of your loved ones, which can be so easily overlooked? What about neurodivergent couples who need extra care and consideration?

Well, here are what some of my couples have said about working with me:

“Michelle was our celebrant and from meeting her at a wedding fayre, all the way up to our wedding day we felt very at ease with her and well supported. Michelle got to know us really well and gave us so much inspiration for our ceremony. The script she put together was very ‘us’ and our guests have told us they laughed and cried in equal amounts! Despite being agoraphobic, I really wanted to stand in front of our friends and family and say my vows. Michelle was so understanding and met with me to work out what would help. We had a plan B in place but we didn’t need to use it! Our ceremony was warm, personal, and funny thanks to Michelle’s hard work and wonderful presence. We would recommend Michelle to anyone and are so glad we picked her for our day. Thank you Michelle”

“I didn’t know much about celebrant-led weddings but Michelle talked me through every single element of it and led the process incredibly well, putting us both at ease. She is so enthusiastic and loves what she does, which just injects love and passion into the entire process. We had quite a lot of poignant elements we wanted to include in the celebrant speech, such as family bereavements and my own breast cancer diagnosis, and Michelle covered these so beautifully in a way that was touching and moving but still emphasised the joy of the occasion ”

Working with Autism Allies

I first came across this fantastic organisation when organising a styled wedding shoot for a gorgeous wedding venue - Sedgewell Barn, North Yorkshire.

Here is what the Autism Allies say about themselves:

“Autism Support Allies was founded by Melinda Fleming after more than 23 years working in support and seeing far too many people and families missing out because spaces, activities and opportunities simply weren't built with them in mind. So ASA started doing things differently. Today we create inclusive events, sensory spaces, community sessions and practical support across North Yorkshire — bringing together real experience, understanding, a growing community and a lot of heart. Autism is in our name because it's where our story began. But being an Ally is about making room for everyone.”

As soon as I spoke with the team at ASA, I knew I had to get them involved. What they have to offer is unique within the wedding industry and I’m excited to see their journey evolve over time.

Celebrating Same Sex Weddings

And a proposed Wedding Law Reform

Earlier this year (2026) a consultation was opened by the Ministry of Justice which proposed a new framework for wedding law.

One of the many proposals within this consultation is that Independent Wedding Celebrants would have the right to conduct wedding ceremonies which are legally binding in England and Wales.

This consultation, known also as the ‘Tying the Knot: Reforming Weddings Law, could mean that couples will finally be offered the flexibility of a celebrant wedding without the inconvenience of needing a registrar to provide their marriage license.

As a wedding celebrant, I’m particularly passionate about what the proposed changes signify for same-sex couples. If successful, a reform could mean that the personal identification, cultures and beliefs of a couple are fully reflected by a new law with, most importantly, a more inclusive system.

As a wedding celebrant, I offer a safe and welcoming space honouring couples of all backgrounds, beliefs, gender identity and sexual orientation.

I’m passionate about inclusivity; I champion weddings which celebrate your differences and commemorate your wonderful uniqueness.

I care about you and I’m invested in your love story. I’m eager to know how you inspire one another, how your relationship has changed over time, how you’ve supported one another through tough times and everything in between.

“We couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful celebrant. From the very first meeting, she spent so much time getting to know us—listening to our story, understanding our personalities, and learning what really mattered to us. Her warmth and curiosity instantly put us at ease, and it was clear she genuinely cared about making our ceremony deeply personal.

She recognised straight away that Stephen and I really do have an epic love story, and she crafted everything so beautifully that everyone was completely captivated—and, if we’re honest, a little bit jealous of the romance! The ceremony felt completely “us”—heartfelt, joyful, and full of meaning.

What meant the world to us was how she also wove our sons into the ceremony. As a blended family, that inclusion was so important, and she was absolutely brilliant at connecting with them beforehand, listening to their thoughts and feelings, and finding ways to express their voices within the ceremony. It was completely emotional, and we’ll never forget those moments.

Her professionalism, creativity, and kindness made the entire process joyful and stress-free. We’ll be forever grateful for how she captured our journey and our family, and helped set the tone for such a special day. Truly a five-star experience from start to finish. ”
